Good to know ...!

According to the current trends in social media, we are modifying our forms of communication with all our 103,987 ( and still counting ...) registered members from our central web site and from all the social networks and SPNS (social or professional networking sites).

Like each year, the eBA Clinics will be on Summer / Winter vacation in the months of July and August, when half of our members will be vacationing while the other half will be removing the snow well away from tiles near house door entrance ...!

But this year no one will be inactive in eBA: we´ll be putting together a new method of daily communication through the social networks and a Trimonthly ( instead of bimonthly ) Technical Bulletin ( not just information ) !

The eBA Stats Group, with our 20 websites, is present in all those SPNS (social or professional networking sites): LinkedIn, Google + Communities, Facebook, Twitter and VideoLibrary eBA.

If you are registered to our newsletter, but You are not yet in any of our eBA Group SPNS, visit our central web site to join our circles and watch the numbers of our success ... !

See You at LinkedIn, Google + Community, Twitter, VideoLibrary eBA Channel and / or Facebook ! .

Be Welcome, Have A Pleasant Summer and a Warm Winter !

FROM THE "eBA SYSTEM CLINIC"
from the eBA Permanent Clinic 4th. Month Meetings:

About the Right Way to Evaluate the Basketball Defense

"... What kind of information needed in order to evaluate defense in the right manner ?

Basketball has a lot of difficult areas of quantitative information when we translate a game into statistics. For example, categories as "allowed points - from 2, 3 and PF bonus"; "offensive rebounds allowed"; "turnovers - that aren't steals" and "good and bad personal fouls"...

Here are some of the non-conventional statistics I include in the eBA Basketball Statistics Creative Analysis System to figure out how to collect as a first effort towards determining which have the greatest impact on success on the defensive work:

 • Deflections, Deflections for turnovers

 • Defensive Penetrations Allowed, Defensive Penetrations stopped ( did you stop your man from penetrating in the paint before he shot or gave up his dribble )

 • Assists in paint, Assists outside of paint, within each, assists leading to jump shots,
assists leading to layups, assists leading to foul shots, and within each of these,
are they part of fast break or not.

 • Rebounds in traffic, Rebounds from free throws

 • Shot percentages - location zone of shot, and within each, whether guarded or open

 • Turnovers - forced, unforced, rule violation turnovers by type ( traveling, palming, etc. )

 • Touches - How often, where, duration in seconds, conclusion (pass, assist, shot, turnover
as a percentage of total touches)

 • Charges taken, blocks given

 • Blocks above head, blocks that were strips, fouls on block attempts by each

 • Turnovers caused - steals, forced by defense ( i.e., preventing your man from crossing
8 seconds line, or guarding your man for more than 'x' seconds leading to 24 seconds clock
    violation )

( See our complete list of statistical analysis categories included in the eBA Basketball Statistics Creative Analysis System, which are not accounted in the traditional statistical methods, specially those made at live game time. )

For example, analyzing wing players we put aside blocked shots, because for a wing player, getting a block doesn't necessarily make him a good defensive player.

On a wing steals are more important and give the coach evidences about who is working hard and anticipating.

Blocks shots shows the coach that the player is tall and quick and playing hard, but those factors isolated from others don't make a good defensive player.

Switching, anticipating, filling lanes, and making steals are events that do.

Gathering and analyzing those categories of data will give us a sort of information, for example, about how many unguarded shots - no fast breaks plays - were taken by the opponents, and how many were allowed to us. ..."

Our June 2014 RECOMMENDATION !
Point Guard Play with Bob Hurley Sr.
Bob Hurley Sr.:
The Basketball Point Guard Play

with Robert Matthew "Bob" Hurley, Sr. (born July 3, 1947),
St. Anthony High School in Jersey City, New Jersey, basketball head coach.

Hurley has amassed 23 state championships and more than 900 wins in 35 years as a coach, creating a national powerhouse despite substandard facilities and financial limitations.

Five of his teams have gone undefeated, including his 2007-08 team. On April 5, 2010, he was announced as the only coach to be inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame that year and only the third high-school coach in history to be so honored; he was formally inducted on August 13 of that year.

Bob Hurley is the father of Bobby Hurley, a former All-American point guard at Duke, and Dan Hurley, who was hired in April 2010 to coach Wagner College after years of coaching at Newark's Saint Benedict's Preparatory School, also one of the top high school programs in the nation. Dan has since hired Bobby as an assistant at Wagner. ......

Basketball Statistics Case Studies

Last Bulletin Case Study Conclusion:

About Different Situations in a Basketball Assist Case Study

A2 passes to A4 who is breaking for the basket and A4 shoots and scores. .....

 • case a) A2 was free to get a shot but A4 was also free when he got the pass; or
 • case b) A4 was well guarded and had to make a move to get free; or
 • case c) A2 was well guarded and A4 was guarded but had no problem getting the shot off; or
 • case d) A2 was free to get a shot and A4 was guarded but had no problem getting the shot off.

What is the proper ruling and the correct INDIVIDUAL or COLLECTIVE statistical registration according to the eBA Basketball Statistics Analysis System including the type of the registration ( type of turnover; forced, unforced, individual or collective turnover, good or bad foul; close, long, disputed or undisputed rebound; assist made, potential, missed or double assist; etc. ) ..."

Conclusion:

eBA System Statistics Fundamentals:
An assist should be more than a routine pass that just happens to be followed by a field goal. It should be a conscious effort to find the open player or to help a player work free.

There should not be a limit on the number of dribbles by the receiver. It is not even necessary that the assist be given on the last pass. The eBA Basketball Statistics Creative Analysis System works with the 'Second Assist' concept.

There is no restraint on the distance or type of shot made, for these are not the crucial factors in determining whether an assist should be credited. Nevertheless, the eBA System register both factors: distance of the assist and type of shot assisted made.

eBA Basketball Statistical Registration:

• In (a) credit A2 with an FREE ASSIST and A4 with FGM. In this case, if A4 misses his shot, we should
   credit A2 with a POTENTIAL ASSIST !

• In (b) do not credit A2 with an assist but credit A4 with FGM.

• In (c) it will be a matter for the statistician to decide the relative importance of the pass. If the statistician
thinks that the pass gave the shooter enough advantage to shoot, then an assist should be credited to A2
and also credit A4 with FGM

• In (d) credit A2 with a COMMON ASSIST and A4 with FGM. In this case, if A4 misses his shot, we should
   credit A2 with a POTENTIAL ASSIST !
