FROM THE "eBA SYSTEM CLINIC"
from the eBA Permanent Clinic 1st. Month Meetings:

Tracking Each Shot and the Game Situation with the Best Indicators of the Winner

"... The eBA System - The Basketball Statistics Creative Analysis records each shot related to the game situation (time and score) - ball location (sideline or endline) - player location ( location of shot in our 15 zones basketball court diagram ) - type of shot (shot selection) - shooting clock (seconds remaining) - shot result ( made or missed ) and offensive and defensive alignments. ..."

"... The general character and site of the shot attempt can be a manifestation of the stage of difficulty:

1) End-line plays present a bigger menace than sideline out of bounds;

2) In the main, inbounds plays have both inside and outside choices with a condition to keep from performing a 5 second violation;

3) As a whole the first precedence of the defense against end-line out of bounds plays is impeding an easy basket at the rim.

The basketball statistician must knows that the achievement of their objective by the offense or defense returning from a time out in closely contested end game situations are more significant than others - these are about entirely sideline plays.

The eBA System - The Basketball Statistics Creative Analysis also registers the success rates of a specific team or coach after a timeout, both the offense and defense should are analyzed. ..."

Therefore, before going into the locker room at half time, reading the statistics report of the Basketball Statistics Creative Analysis System, the most helpful scorebook stats are:

- defensive touches tracked and shots inside the paint... ( how aggressive are we playing ? );
- number of fouls called on each team... ( who shoots the most free throws ? );

- rebounds... ( are our rebounds at 40+ / 50+ per game and we own the boards ? );

- turnovers, steals... ( are the immediate gratification you are looking for in a game...);

- the shot chart for both teams by quarter ( are we shooting to many jumpers and not attacking the rim ? );

- the shots by 4, 8, 16, 20 and 24 seconds report ( is this game pace our game pace ? );

- missed layups... ( all the other problems will get over that as soon as players start making layups !);

- deflections... ( are we getting good pressure in the passing lanes ? );

- turnover/assist ratio for players and turnovers/steals ratio for the team ( more assists and steals, OK ? );

- OER (offensive efficiency rating)= total points scored divided by total possessions;

- DER (defensive efficiency rating)= total points allowed divided by total possessions;

- these stats take the tempo of the game out of the equation and give you a true sense of how effective you are at scoring and stopping the other team.

...and obviously, the best indicator of the winner is to be sure that the team that has the most points is my proper team...

In my opinion, everything else is post-game analysis as proposed in my eBA Basketball Statistics Creative Analysis System.

Basketball Statistics Case Studies

Last Month Case Study Conclusion:

About Basketball Field Goals Statistics Tracking Case Study

"... As the shot clock is about to run out, A1 shoots and the ball clearly is in flight before the horn.

1.- The shot-clock horn sounds while the ball is in the air and the ball strikes the basket ring or enters the basket.

2.- The shot-clock horn sounds while the ball is in the air, the ball fails to hit the ring, and A3 rebounds. The officials call the violation and Team B is awarded the ball for a throwin.

3.- The shot-clock horn sounds while the ball is in the air, the ball fails to hit the ring, and B5 rebounds. The officials call the violation and Team B is awarded the ball for a throw-in.

4.- The ball fails to hit the ring and the shotclock horn sounds before B5 rebounds. The officials call the violation and Team B is awarded the ball for a throw-in.

5.- The ball fails to hit the ring and the shot-clock horn sounds as B5 rebounds. The officials do not call a violation and Team B continues control of the ball.

What is the proper ruling and the correct INDIVIDUAL or COLLECTIVE statistical registration according to the eBA Basketball Statistics Analysis System including the type of the registration ( type of turnover; forced, unforced, individual or collective turnover, good or bad foul; close, long, disputed or undisputed rebound; assist made, potential, missed or double assist; etc. ) ..."

Conclusion:

Basketball Statistics Philosophy:

A player should not be charged for a shot from the field influenced by the illegal actions of himself or herself, or any teammates or opponents, unless the shot results in a FGM.

eBA System Statistics Fundamentals:

A field-goal attempt (FGA) is charged to a player any time the player shoots, throws or taps a live ball at his own basket, when, in the opinion of the statistician, the player is attempting to score a goal.

A field goal made (FGM) is credited to a player any time a FGA by the player results in the goal being counted or results in an awarded score of two (or three) points except when the field goal is the result of a defensive player tipping the ball in the offensive basket.

If the statistician is in doubt about whether a shooting foul is a player-control foul, the actions of the officials will indicate the correct ruling. If the foul is a player-control foul, it will be so indicated by the officials and any shot will be waved of.

The statistician must records each shot related to the game situation (time and score) - ball location (sideline or endline) - player location ( location of shot in our 15 zones basketball court diagram ) - type of shot (shot selection) - shooting clock (seconds remaining) - shot result ( made or missed ) and offensive and defensive alignments.

eBA Basketball Statistical Tracking:

In all cases, no turnover is charged.

In 1.- the horn is ignored. Charge A1 with a FGA and, if the shot is good, credit A1 with a FGM in the last 4 of the 24 seconds shooting clock.

In 2.-, 3.- and 4.-, charge A1 with a FGA and credit Team B with a dead-ball rebound in the "24 Sec Violation" category.

In 5.-, charge A1 with a FGA and credit B5 with a close, long, disputed or undisputed rebound, depending upon the game situation.
